Widgets

Widgets are the web a la carte. Widgets are movable mini-applications are used by consumers to craft custom experiences on their desktops, start pages, social networks, blogs and more. Widgets can be anything, common examples include games, news tickers, video and audio players, quizzes, slideshows, personal productivity tools, system utilities.

Widgets are perfect if you’re looking to expand the audience for your content. Why not create a dialogue with your most important customers? When they grab your widget and post it on their web page, start page, blog or social networking profile, they’ve decided that they want to interact with you on a daily basis. Take advantage of this new opportunity, strengthen your bond with existing customers, get new customers, and do something cool.

One thing I certainly want to make clear about Widgets particularly as it relates to show resources (video, music and the like)… you can integrate these resources into your widgets but only if they are already repurposed that way. For example, anyone who puts video on You Tube allowing for that content to be repurposed. That is the whole point of it. So one must make sure they are using something that the show has put there or given release for wide distribution.

So if the show has a You Tube page.. video is good to go… if some guy sneaks a camera into a theatre and shoots some video… obviously you want to flag that content… not use it in a widget.

One nice thing about widgets is the fact that content of widgets change as you need them to without the individual users that have propagated your widget having to update them. So if you just found out you now have a star in your show… update the widget and it is updated across all platforms.

Through distribution channels like Gigya, your custom widget can become viral and spread throughout your audience, helping you reach like minded individuals. AND ALL THAT DATA IS TRACKABLE!!!
